The Tour route – off the beaten track

Super-BesseIn the heart of the Auvergne, the Massif du Sancy is the ideal place for a rich and active holiday with your family or amongst friends enjoying a preserved and authentic natural environment. Summer and winter alike, there are plenty of things to do: hiking, horse-riding, mountain bike, sports and leisure activities, fitness, sightseeing (museums, churches, castles, spa towns), events... downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snow shoe walks, dog-sledding.

Super-Besse

This winter sports resort, located between 1,350 and 1,850 m altitude, offers 128 km of ski tracks which are connected with those of the neighbouring resort of le Mont Dore.
In winter, the resort hosts the final of the Andros Trophy, an automobile competition which takes place on ice. The ski museum at Besse holds a collection of wooden skis from all over Europe. In summer, its situation in the heart of the Parc naturel régional des volcans d’Auvergne (Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Natural Park) means that many sports activities are available: sailing, windsurfing, bathing, hiking, horse-riding, mountain bike. Every year, the Fête de l’Estive (Transhumance Festival), attracts almost 10,000 visitors when the Salers cows are driven up to the high pastures.
