All about the Auvergne
Auvergne or Auvergne?
Off the beaten tracks, the Auvergne astounds, recharges, soothes, blossoms and enchants. Its many faces, built by time and by humans, have made it a land of freedom just waiting for discovery and adventure. Here nature can be seen in all its splendour, wide plains and medium sized mountains sometimes looking alpine, or gentle, which originated mostly in the cataclysmic volcanic activity which took place over millions of years.
Lakes, pleasant and ancient oak groves or other forests invite the visitor to escape. From these mountains spring a number of rivers – others only pass through the region.
Mineral or thermal waters, exploited since ancient times, still spring up. Some is bottled (Volvic, Vichy Célestins, Saint-Yorre, Rozana…), others have created the wealth of the spa resorts.
Whether it be in the air, in a hot air balloon or paragliding; on the ground hiking or other forms of touring, on the water in a canoe, raft or on a fishing expedition; the region offers many different forms of nature activities. Theme parks also invite you for discovery and fun. The Auvergne is also a welcoming region, with men and women who have preserved its architectural wealth and other heritage.
